Hey, hey TGIF and haaapppy Friday everyone! Today’s a little play on words with Frdiay *FUN* being directed at the band known as “Fun.” Today’s gonna be a little double whammy for you. I’m sure you’ve heard their catchy tune “We Are Young” off the album “Some Nights” (they released an album called Aim and Ignite prior to that one.)
Before Nate Ruess formed the band Fun he was in another band called The Format. (Unfortunately, causing disappointment to many people they broke up in 2008.) Some of my favorite songs are from their album Interventions and Lullabies (2003.)
My friend Natasha even posted an instagram pic the other day and tagged JD and I in it, of a mix she came across from back in the day. This was definitely one of our jam out, dance out CDs. “The night life is just not for me, ’cause all you really need are a few good friends…”
I was trying to recall, and I think I actually found out about The Format first when they toured with Something Corporate back in 2004. We were like hey, these guys are really good! (Duh, right?) But really…I love fun openers like that where you end up loving their music for years to come.
The Format later released the album Dog Problems, (which my friend Kirsten’s fraternity brothers can sing along to sooo many of the songs, which is like the funnest thing ever in group settings,) but Interventions will always hold the softer spot in my heart.
If you looked it up, you’d probably notice some of their songs played on TV shows in the past. I strongly urge you to go check out the Interventions and Lullabies album in its entirety if you haven’t already done so! It’s so hard to choose a favorite, but here’s one to share with you, (that I quoted from above) “The First Single”:
