Listen, Throwback Thursday

Throwback Thursday, Listen to This: “With Arms Outstretched”

My schedule has changed lately, so like I said I’ve had some time to delve back into my musical interest again. Settling into listening to Rilo Kiley again lately, is like coming home after being gone for a little while. I’ve always admired Jenny Lewis’s vocal talent, and the whole band – they just make beautiful music. (OK, I’ll admit, I’m purely fascinated by that woman in general – I mean she performed at The Postal Service concert, and I was just blown away. But that’s to be expected.) Anyway, the other night when I was on that Weeds binge, there’s a pivotal scene where they use “With Arms Outstretched.” I won’t get into specifics because like I said you need to watch for yourself, but it’s one of those scenes where the musical accompaniament leaves an impact on the viewer. At least it should. (That always happens to me anyways, I was Shazaaming songs in the closing credits of The Spectacular Now the other day.)

This song was released on The Execution of All Things back in 2002 from Saddle Creek Records, so it can definitely be considered a throwback.

I’m not always one for posting live videos, but this performance from Bonnaroo in 2008 looks incredible.

“Now some days they last longer than others
But this day by the lake went too fast
And if you want me
You better speak up, I won’t wait
So you better move fast”
I mean seriously? How does that not move you? Go give this song a listen. Or ten.
