Listen to This: “Highway Don’t Care”

Happy, Happy Friday everyone! I know, it’s been a little bit since I blogged. Life got a little crazy, and things are finally “settling down” (whatever that’s worth) for the most part, plus I didn’t want to just be spitting out posts about my favorite music or movies when I hadn’t gotten any feelings down about Boston. (Read Believe in the Good on The Life of Mugs.) Anyway, now I’m back. And this is a song I’ve been wanting to share for serveral posts now, but before I just couldn’t decide and hello! As I’m wandering around my kitchen singing it in the morning I’m thinking to myself, it’s time to put it up on the blog!

Tim McGraw, Keith Urban and Taylor Swift had one of the best performances of a song I’d seen during an award show in ages when they played “Highway Don’t Care.” I mean, it was honestly like stop you in your tracks awesome. Now it’s gotten plenty of radio play, and why the heck not?! It’s packed with superstar fabulousness, and it’s just a WONDERFUL song.  Tim McGraw and Keith Urban have always been two of my favorite country artists. To be perfectly honest I go through phases with Taylor Swift. When I heard her sing this on stage that night though? Yep! She’s still got it.

I mean, I don’t even think there’s much I could say about this song that would do it justice, other than you need to just stop whatever you’re doing right now, and give it a listen:

Listen to This: “Mean”

Because it’s Wednesday, and it’s been a rough week and because this song just keeps running through my head today, I give you TSwift’s “Mean” from her album Speak Now. I’m pretty sure it’s probably almost impossible to have missed this one. It’s slammed the radio airwaves, she’s won many awards, and sang it live on the several occasions. It’s a good one to think about when you’re trying to maintain composure, but you really just want to scream or cry. Sometimes, people are just really down right mean. Your boss. Customers. Strangers. Friends. We all have our bad days, but don’t take it out on those around you. I’m not really a touchy-feely person, but days like today just make me want to give people a hug.

“All you are is mean, and a liar, and pathetic, and alone in life, and mean and mean and mean…”

Listen, Music Monday, Read This, Reading, Watch This

THG Revisited

Happy Monday everyone! Today is a jam packed post with a little bit of everything: read this, watch this, AND listen to this! With the release of The Hunger Games film just days away (Thursday at midnight,) I’ve decided since it’s been a year since my first read, it’s time to revisit the book. You can read my gushing post about Suzanne Collins awesome masterpiece here. If I didn’t have work on Friday morning, and I thought I could make it through the day on three hours of sleep I’d definitely be there at the midnight showing. Instead I will probably have to wait until the weekend. Again, if you’ve skipped this recommendation, or you’ve somehow missed everybody talking about it (?!) READ IT!

I originally checked out THG from the library. I read maybe to page three, and I was sleepy and put it on my desk. I think I waited a few days before I picked it up again, but by the time I finished the first chapter, there was no tearing me away. I went online (when Borders was still in action,) and ordered the boxed set before I even finished – just knowing this trilogy was gold, and I wanted everyone I knew to read them! So my advice is if you’re hesitant give them an honest chance even if you don’t think “dystopian novels” or “young adult fiction” are your thing.

If you’ve also managed to miss out on the trailers splashed everywhere, (or you just can’t get enough!) here’s one :

An added treat! Here’s the official music video for “Safe and Sound” one of the first songs released from the soundtrack by The Civil Wars and Taylor Swift

Are you seeing the film at midnight? Are you dressing up for the occasion? (My hair feathers made me feel Katniss-like for a short while.) Share your thoughts in the comments!
