Listen to This: Calling All Angels

I was driving to work this morning and Train’s “Calling All Angels” came on the radio, and I haven’t heard it in a while. With news of Chris Cornell’s death yesterday, I was thinking about the personal demons we face, and how so many times people fight those battles silently. That line “I need to know that things are gonna look up.” People need something to hope for, and they need to know that there’s light at the end of the tunnel, and that even on dark days when you feel absolutely horrible, you are not always going to feel like that. It’s hard to say when the clouds will lift, but one day they will. And sometimes, well I think almost all the time – people need to know they’re not alone. People just want someone to reach out to them, to listen, to provide a sense of company in our crazy world – even if you can’t physically be there in a moment. We all get so busy in our day to day lives, and have our own ordeals and struggles to handle, but just remember to check in with each other. It helps ease the burden of the weight we all carry.

I know this song probably sounds cheesy in memory, but the message is a good point and it’s a good reminder. So, here’s to a little Friday throwback. And as always, remember to be kind to each other – what a difference it can make.

Listen to This: Say You Won’t Let Go

Driving home from work on Monday, I heard this song on the radio, and I was immediately intrigued. The lyrics are so vulnerable, and raw. Musically it’s beautiful, and of course I’m a sucker for an accent (no shame in admitting that.) I sent the song to a friend that night, and they sent me a YouTube video from the X-Factor in which James Arthur won in 2012. I can’t believe I’m just hearing him now, and I’ve missed out on a few years of getting to hear such a great voice. Upon a Google search you can see that there was much controversy surrounding his lyrics and musical choices in the years following the X-Factor win, but hopefully this fabulous single from his album Back From the Edge shows a different direction he’s taking with his music. I mean, I’m well aware I’m a sap and I’m all for a beautiful declaration of love, but how can you not melt at these words?

I met you in the dark, you lit me up
You made me feel as though I was enough
We danced the night away, we drank too much
I held your hair back when
You were throwing up
Then you smiled over your shoulder
For a minute, I was stone-cold sober
I pulled you closer to my chest
And you asked me to stay over
I said, I already told ya
I think that you should get some rest
I knew I loved you then
Anyway, here’s wishing much success for this artist and more from where this beautiful song came from. If you haven’t heard this song yet, check it out:

Friday Fun, Listen to This: “Let’s Go”

It’s Friday. FINALLY. That is not an exaggeration. These days have trickled by, and I am trying to remind myself that each one, is new – with it’s own blank canvas before it. Some days that’s a larger task than others. In general, we could all use a fun song this Friday, right? So! What’s more fun than Matt & Kim? That’s right – not much. I’ve got “Let’s Go” for you, today. This isn’t very obscure, it’s not like you might not have ever heard it, but whether it’s new or old to you, give it a listen today.Plus, hello this video is obviously nothing less than awesome in its weird awkward fabulousness. I can’t wait to walk out into the arms of the weekend, myself. I hope you enjoy yours!

“Shouting out of my windows
Roll down
Cause I don’t care anymore
Said I don’t care
Let’s go

Say what you wanna say
Make it mean everything
Oh, say what you wanna say
Make it mean everything”

Turn It Up Tuesday, Listen to This: “Hey Pretty Girl”

Good morning, good morning readers! Yesterday was a bit busy so this is my first post of the week. Hope everyone had a lovely weekend (did any of you watch The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel?) and are settling into this week nicely. I for one am anxiously looking forward to the end of the week when it will be REUNION time with one of my girlfriends from college and a little weekend visit to Nashville! (My first time in Tennessee other than basically the border when my little and I were road tripping in North Carolina a few years ago.) Any suggestions? Oh, sorry I’m getting sidetracked, back to Turn It Up Tuesday. Like I said Country Strong kind of re-ignited my country music listening obsession. You know I can’t do anything moderately. I’ve always loved Big D and Bubba in the morning on 103.1 The Wolf, and they gently eased me back in to all the hit country songs. Sunday the ACM’s were on, and I definitely jammed out to some Blake Shelton Pandora while I was eating breakfast on the back deck Sunday morning. Hearing some great country classics on The Voice really reels me back in, too. So! With all that being said can I just share with you one of my favorite songs, lately (and probably brace yourself for a few more this week!)? Kip Moore’s “Hey Pretty Girl.” It just makes me smile, every single time. Those of you who aren’t a huge fan of my pop-punk throwbacks might appreciate the shift in genre today, (it’s been a while since I featured a country song on the blog.)

Some of my favorite lines that I just can’t resist sharing?

Life’s a long and winding ride
Better have the right one by your side
And happiness don’t drag its feet
Time moves faster than you think

Hey pretty girl, wanna take you home
My momma’s gonna love you
She’ll make me sleep on the couch, I know
Hey pretty girl, wanna take you home

Hey pretty girl, let’s build some dreams…

Turn It Up Tuesday, Listen to This: Anna Sun

Turn It Up Tuesday. What do you think? I just decided that’s what today would be. Yesterday’s post on Eleanor and Park was kind of heavy so I figured I’d share with y’all an upbeat tune that can even get me dancing in my chair. Anna Sun by Walk the Moon is such a good one, if you ask me (and you’re kind of asking me since you’re reading this.) I mean seriously, every time this song comes on any station on Pandora I bookmark it. Then I wonder why I don’t share it with you guys if I love it so much? (Plus, I’m kind of bad about remembering that I know since I’ve Shazaamed it in public more than once. Also, hello! If we’re talking about awesomeness, the cover art has a treehouse! And it looks like water color. How does it get cooler than that? (Obviously, I judge things by their covers sometimes since I mentioned this yesterday, too. The thing is you can grab my attention with the cover but that won’t win it all – it’s gotta be a package deal.) In case you’re wondering this band uses MySpace. Also, since it came out in 2010 this song is technically a throwback, but we can ignore that for the time being. Anyway if you’re not familiar with the song I definitely recommend giving it a listen! It’s catchy, you’ll probably like it.
